I can’t throw away something that is supposed to be ‘quality’ or last for a long time because of either its materials or thoughtfulness in its design. This vacuum was on the way out, my wife told me that it doesn’t suck any more and she recommended we throw it out. I hesitated on my call with her and she knew that I needed to say goodbye to it or something so she left it out for me.
I knew that it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, also on me. It was a reliable cleaner…the hose doesn’t work any more (the parts broke, but it was a solid stand up vacuum for everyday use). So I cleaned it.
That is actually not descriptive enough, I started cleaning it and saw that the water was not even making it’s way out the other side of the filter. It needed more care. So I spent the extra 10 mins to coax the water through and re-estabilish the air flow. I also discovered that there was a secondary filter, that I didn’t even know what there and I pulled it out and cleaned it too. Thank you Dyson for making this easy to do.
While I was cleaning it. Parts of the vacuum got run over my our car. In a moment of defeat I inspected the part that was affected and surprisingly it was still functional.
And the old wedding gift was back in business. 13 years later, this vacuum still sucks. (Not quite the 20 year old Kirby of my childhood, but it’s only 7 years away). And I felt super proud while I was showing off the re-found power by vacuuming the rug in the entry way.
